Dynamo Team: The Legend
Babij Yar by Yuri Kuznetsov

The incredible story of the Dynamo of Kyiv, one of Europe's finest, is one of the legendary events of WW II. This almost incredible story took place during the summer of 1942 in Kiev's Bakery No. 1 and on the soccer fields of the city. Its' final chapter was written in Babij Yar, the place not only known as Death Hills where thousands of Jews were murdered, but also where several Dynamo Kyiv players were shot after they defeated German Flakelf team. With years, this story has grown to almost incredible proportions. Here, we give you an account of those events by Yuri Kuznetsov, probably the most credible recollection of the Death Match…

Dynamo Kyiv became the first Ukrainian and the Soviet club, which could overcome all laps of one of the continental tournaments. Before, the greatest achievment had been managed by participation of "Dynamo" Moscow in the final of the European Cup's tournament when it lost the final against the Scottish Club "Glasgow Rangers".

Having won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1975, Dynamo Kyiv obtained the right to participate in a two-round battle for the UEFA Super Cup, Dynamo faced Munich's Bayern, a team simply shining with first-rate stars and headed by the legendary Franz Beckenbauer. However, these two games demonstrated that stars with a brighter light had risen in Kyiv.
