The European Championships 2000, the finals of which will be hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands, has placed Ukraine once again in a very difficult group. Not only does Ukraine face the "auld-enemy" Russia for the first time ever at senior international level, but newly-crowned World Champions France must also be contended with. With only the top two going through to the finals, to say it will be a difficult qualifying group to escape from merely is stating the obvious.
