John Terry: I sledged Shevchenko before penalty miss![]() Tue Oct 12
England captain Terry wound up Shevchenko by whispering in his ear and it was enough to make the Ukraine captain miss his first half spot kick. Terry said: “I did have a word with Sheva before he took the penalty, but I’m not going to say what I said. I’ll keep that to myself!“ Shevchenko swapped shirts with Terry after the game and the pair still remain friends even if the England defender was still fuming about the sending off. Terry claims that Slovenian referee Damir Skomina was about to send off Rio Ferdinand until his fourth official corrected him and told him keeper Rob Green should be red carded. Terry added: “I’m a little bit confused still with what happened with the penalty. At the time, the ref was saying Rio should go. After the game I heard him say to the manager that the red card wasn’t for Rio. He was showing it to Greeny. It’s a little bit confusing. “The referee was a little bit closer than myself and still gives a red card to Rio. I was trying to say to the ref that Rio was there as cover for Greeny, and then the fourth official had to intervene. “The fourth official stopped the referee who would have sent Rio off, which is bizarre. But I’m not getting away from the issue. I thought the referee had a decent game apart from that.” |
